Gay Hong Kong

Hong Kong is an odd bird. The first Asian territory to decriminalize British anti-buggery laws, it still maintains an insular attitude. It lags behind other Asian cityies in terms of wanting to attract outsiders. This is a bit of the Cantonese nature, in itself quite set apart even in language from mainland Chinese culture. While some new gay places open each year, as many old places seem to close. Odd for a city that does have LGBT activism, cultural events such as Asia's oldest gay film festival and a large mix of Chinese and foreign workers. Perhaps one reason is that Hong Kong remains an extremely expensive place for tourists to visit, even more so than Tokyo or New York.
